As the F1 driver and Indy 500 winner, Alexander Rossi has driven plenty of high-hp cars throughout his life. But that fact isn’t necessarily the best predictor of which vehicle he’ll choose when given the opportunity to drive any vehicle in Motor Trend’s press fleet.
During a visit to MT’s fleet, Alexander Rossi passes up the chance to test out a 707-hp Dodge Charger Hellcat in order to take the spin in the new Acura NSX. And it’s not that the man is crazy: He just knows that hp isn’t everything.
What he’s more interested in is how the next generation of the supercar will preform. Given that Acura NSX is one of the first hybrid supercars with the reasonable price tag. It’s a prelude of the industry change that has yet to come.
It’s coming alright, with BMW, McLaren, Mercedes, and even Porsche claiming that there is no more room for the internal combustion engine, its wasteful pollution habit once more stringent regulations go into effect. And if this is the future, what does Alexander Rossi think?
Forstarters, he’s not exactly averse to hybrid hypercars, and claiming how he would one day like to own the McLaren P1. But at the end of the day, he enjoys using the Acura NSX’s launch mode while using the tech drive the car easier.
