To those outside the drag racing realm, a brawl involving the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 might seem ridiculous and yet when we are talking about highly tuned machines, such the fight suddenly starts making sense.
We now want to show you an example of such the drag race, one that sees the 997-generation Neunelfer duking it out with the high-riding SRT8. The brawl was welcomed by the prepped surface of a Maryland International Dragway, which can be found in Buddscreek.
In the Black corner, we have the Jeep that has been taken down the forced induction route. The SUV now packs the supercharger, with the newfound soundtrack of the Grand Cherokee making a whole drag strip shake.
As for the Grey corner, this holds the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet that has also been tuned, even though we are not aware of the exact mods found on the supercar.
The Turbo Neunelfer was never among the best-sounding members of the supercar segment, and the example we have here does take the voice of the flat-six powering the beast to the impressive intensity. We could say the Porscha sounded like the missile, as it was chasing the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 down a strip.
The two drivers don’t seem to pack the same level of drag strip skill, the aspect that shows in their reaction times. It almost feels like a Zuffenhausen machine driver gives the Jeep guy the head start, but we don’t think that was the case.
