What do you get when you combine rain, the very powerful supercar and the Nurburgring? The potential lethal combination, that’s what.
Over the weekend, the Audi R8 V10 Plus driver recently experienced just how dangerous the famed German circuit can be, and coming just milliseconds away from crashing a prized mid-engined supercar.
The entire incident was captured on film and shows the moment the Audi R8 begins to aquaplane as soon as the wheels are turned for the slight left-hand bend.
Immediately, a rear-end of the all-wheel drive weapon steps out, forcing this driver to immediately apply some opposite lock to help keep the vehicle on the straight and narrow. It continues to slide after the corner and when on the short strip of tarmac, this driver hits the brakes, kicking out the tail the other way.
Fortunately, enough speed was wiped off, allowing this driver to retain control. Unless all the systems were turned off, there’s the good chance a traction and stability controls helped out massively as well.
Making the near miss all the more eyebrow-raising is the fact that the Audi R8 in question appears to be the limited-run Selection 24h, one of just 24 units produced.
