We already know that the McLaren P1 GTR is one serious machine. It’s the track-only version of the automaker’s top-of-the-line P1 hypercar, and which means it’s capable of astounding performance.
But despite it’s race-ready aerodynamics and 986 hp drivetrain, the P1 GTR is actually an easy vehicle to drive. Jethro Bovingdon of EVO got a chance to spend the couple of days on Anglesey Circuit in the UK to find out just how hardcore the McLaren track special really is.
And he finds out that, while the limits are certainly high thanks to all of that twin-turbo V8 power and hybrid torque, the McLaren P1 GTR is surprisingly approachable and easy to fling around the track.
At the tight track like Angelsey, the GTR’s aggressive fixed aero can’t be exploited, and Jethro Bovingdon is able to set the blistering 1:08.7 laptime. That’s over two seconds faster than the normal P1, thanks in large part to the GTR’s track-only racing slicks.
This car looks and does what we all imagine HotWheels cars do when we play with them as kids. Watch for yourself as the McLaren P1 GTR slides around Anglesey in true supercar fashion.
