Two prototypes of next-generation Bentley Continental were recently filmed undergoing testing at the Nurburgring.

Well, both prototypes, in coupe and the convertible forms, have vastly different exteriors to the outgoing models and with clear inspiration taken from the EXP10 Speed 6 concept vehicle.

As such, they have the lower, more streamlined front fascia with two enlarged inner headlights and then the smaller light on either side.

The squared-off rear wheel arches further distinguish them from a current range as does the more sporty profile

These particular prototypes appear to be testing out a Volkswagen Group’s latest twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine, first introduced by a Bentley Bentayga last year. And when fitted within the British brand’s SUV, that engine delivers 608 horsepower so far the new Continental, the nearly identical figure can be expected.

Beyond the W12, the 2018 Continental range will be available with the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, and recently snapped testing disguised as the Porsche Panamera. Beyond these two, the plug-in hybrid could be added to the range.

Underpinning a new Continental range will be a same MSB platform as the latest Porsche Panamera, and meaning significant weight savings can be expected over the current vehicle, thanks largely to the use of aluminum.
