Car safety has come on in leaps and bounds over the years. Well, crash test footage recently showed how a new Volvo XC60 will be one of the safest SUVs ever made, and thanks to its rigid structure minimizing the risk of injury to occupants.
It is part of Volvo’s mission to make all of its cars deathproof by 2020. On the other end of the spectrum, we have a Chevrolet Enjoy, the low cost MPV which has the dubious honor of being awarded the zero-star safety rating by Global NCAP. In 2017, that is downright disgraceful.
The eight-seat MPV was designed for Indian market – Chevrolet even declared that the Enjoy is equipped with highest standards of safety.
When this was put to the test by Global NCAP, the results are damning, and to say the least. It probably shouldn’t come as the surprise however when you consider that the entry-level trim doesn’t have any airbags.
During the frontal offset impact at 40 mph, the Chevrolet Enjoy was awarded the zero-star safety rating for adult occupant protection as the driver front passenger injuries would have been unacceptably high, or possibly fatal. Chevrolet Enjoy Zero Stars
And rear seat child occupation protection scored slightly better, with the two-star safety rating. Higher trim levels only offer two airbags.
