When you hear that someone is comparing a good old traditional mechanical item vs a new breed electrical one, which one sounds better to you? Chances are you’ll go with the mechanical option, as new cars are simply way too digital and boring. However, would that be the right choice?

To answer that question, we turn to David Freiburger from Motor Trend Channel. On this episode of Roadkill Extra, Freiburger will compare electric and mechanical gauges, and give his opinion on which ones are superior.

Considering that this man is an experienced mechanic, you might want to listen up. Mechanical gauges are almost obsolete at this point, as they’re just too complicated, with plastic wires which have to go through firewall, which is a nightmare to any mechanic. Furthermore, these wires are extremely brittle, and you better pray they don’t break while you’re on the road.

Contrary to that, electric gauges only have a couple of wires in the back, which are incredibly easy to connect, and they work perfectly fine. What’s the downside? It’s simple; there is none.
