About a year and a half ago, we saw the Fox-body Mustang on The Smoking Tire’s YouTube channel that featured the independent rear suspension from the 2003 Mustang Cobra.

It was a pretty cool vehicle, but unfortunately for the owner Michael, the engine blew up and not long after that video was shot.

Instead of doing what you would expect, and finding a Coyote 5.0 for his vehicle, Michael did something a little different—he dropped the GM LS motor in his Mustang.

Specifically, he installed an LS1 from the 2000 Chevrolet Camaro with LS6 heads and cam. And somehow, despite using a powerplant from the Mustang’s sworn enemy, the vehicle gods have yet to smite Michael or his Franken-Mustang—unlike a previous Ford powerplant, and this GM freak is still running fine.

In fact, as Matt Farah found out in his most recent One Take, the LS1 actually pairs really well with a Fox-body Mustang.

It doesn’t sound like your average Mustang, and you do get great throttle response and smooth power delivery. Well, it might not look like much, but according to Matt Farah, it drives beautifully. It’s the combination that’s sure to blow some minds, but we think it’s great.
