When we talk about a drag race, the fact of the matter is that the more unique the contenders, the better and the more the crowd gets into it. This one is a a superb example of that as 36,000 hp Shockwave Jet Truck goes head-to-head with legendary monster truck Grave Digger for Nitro Jam at the Bradenton Motorsports Park.
It’s probably safe to say that you haven’t seen anything like this, and before you check out the video, let me introduce you to the entrants. First up is the aptly named Shockwave which is powered by three Pratt and Whitney J34-48 jet engines. These are pretty special because they are typically seen in the U.S. Navy’s T2A Buckeye planes! The truck has afterburners that generate a massive cloud of white smoke that’s quite a spectacle to behold, and a bit intimidating if you happen to be the driver on the opposite lane. There’s actually a button on the steering wheel that activates the spark igniters which creates the fire and when the driver doesn’t push that button, the fuel is not burned and a cloud of white smoke is produced.
As for Grave Digger, it is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and influential monster trucks of all time. Its phenomenal popularity has turned it into the poster child for Monster Jam, and monster trucks in general. There have been 34 Grave Digger monster trucks, but only nine are running to date. Since its inception in 1982, Grave Digger has accomplished a lot, including multiple Monster Jam Points Championships, Monster Jam World Racing Championships, Monster Jam Amsoil Series East Championships, among others.
Click on the play button below and watch as the odd duo hustles down the quarter mile. Grave Digger gets a great head start, but will Shockwave be able to beat it to the finish line?
