kDuring the last weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel rammed Lewis Hamilton after the Mercedes driver slowed his vehicle while exiting Turn 15.
After analyzing what had happened, F1 stewards found no evidence that Lewis Hamilton brake-checked Vettel, which is what this Ferrari driver thought.
In fact, the FIA investigation showed that Lewis Hamilton behaved exactly a same during that particular Safety Car restart, and as he had in the incident-free one before.
Due to his actions, Sebastian Vettel was awarded the 10-second stop/go penalty for the potentially dangerous driving.
If you look at this chain of the events from Vettel’s perspective, and thinking that this driver in front brake tested you (which in his case, resulted in the collision, damaging the Ferrari’s front wing) would surely not sit right.
However, evidence showed that Lewis Hamilton wasn’t looking to get hit from behind by his rival, so Vettel’s response certainly lacked sportsmanship, unless he actually didn’t meant to do it.
And it also reminds us of the 1990 blockbuster Days of Thunder and where Tom Cruise’s character Cole Trickle goes back out on the oval only to ram his vehicle into his rival, Russ Wheeler, after he was forced off the track.
