Want to know what it feels like to drive the modern IndyCar? Well, too bad. Unless you are one of the talented few, chances are you will never get to sample one.

The video below, then, may be as close as you’ll ever get to experiencing the rush first-hand.

Released on YouTube by the series organizers is footage captured by Graham Rahal’s helmet visor-cam during the qualifying for the Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle this past weekend.

Why Graham Rahal, you ask? He’s not the champion or Indy 500 winner, and has only won the handful of IndyCar races altogether.

But he dominated the practice sessions, and took his first pole position in eight years, and won not one, but both the races in a double-header on Belle Isle last weekend – did so at the highest average speed ever recorded in the race’s quarter-century of history.

It was the compelling performance, in short, and with this video, you can just about climb into the cockpit of Rahal’s Dallara-Honda for the few of the fastest laps ever completed around the 2.3-mile street circuit.
