Have you ever wonder why jeeps are called “jeeps?” In this extra episode of Road Kill, David Freiburger and JP Magazine editor Rick Péwé had a quick conversation on where the term Jeeps originated. David mentioned something about their strange encounter with a guy who just praised the jeep they were driving and asked them whether they know why jeeps are called jeeps. According to that guy, the jeep came from the acronym GP , a term in army which stands for “General Purpose”. This could be very convincing but the real story behind it is that , the term jeep is taken from a popular Popeye character called “Eugene The Jeep”. As the vehicle shares the same characteristic of being small, able to move between dimensions and could solve seemingly impossible problems. Rick, however has his own opinion with the term’s origin. For him, it came from a slang term jeep which means unproven truth, unproven vehicle and more.
