It is quite amazing what grip can do. See this Aussies race the 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus and the McLaren 570S. These two are two rather monstrous supercars with the capability to accelerate to 62 mph in about 3 seconds. However, the cars are fundamentally different.
The Audi goes thanks to a naturally aspirated V10 and an all-wheel-drive system, while the McLaren employs rear wheel drive and smaller turbocharged V8.
However, two drag races here prove that the grip is the king when it comes to drag racing. The first race, in which Audi dominated, saw the McLaren run on cold tires.
However, the drivers had a hunch McLaren could do better on warm tires. And, presumably, after a short burnout, the tires were ready for the second run. The results are astonishing. McLaren, although only RWD won over the Audi R8 V10 Plus leaving it behind.
Warmer tires better stick to the road and in every conceivable way are better suited for any kind of racing. All in all, the 570hp Brit and 610hp German are quite astounding pieces of kit, but it seems that light McLaren dominates against the most of the cars in drag races.
It won against the NSX, 911 Turbo S, GT-R, R8 and much more in the past. An incredible entry-level car from McLaren.
