Driving Ariel Nomad, as we already know, is some of the most fun you can have off the asphalt. It’s the off-road version of Ariel’s famous open-wheeler street-legal Atom track car, equipped with the 230-hp four-cylinder mounted in the rear, and not much else.
Rory Reid of Top Gear got a chance to take one through some English rally stages, and it looks like he had the fairly fun time.
The Nomad is Ariel’s attempt at the fun, simple rear-wheel-drive off road monster.
Long travel shocks, off-road tires, and the full roll cage give the driver everything they need to experience the raw nature of the dirt surface, while the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter Honda motor and the six-speed manual gearbox keep the wheels spinning. It also has no doors, the windshield is an option. Talk about hardcore.
Reid decided to take the orange-painted Nomad to Wales in the U.K., where some of the greatest rally stages on Earth awaited him.
He is joined by eight-time Rally America Champion David Higgins, who happens to own a land that holds the legendary roads.
Watch as Reid and Higgins rip around the tree-lined dirt roads in one of the best street-legal open-wheelers around.
