Fans of the Harris’ hooligan antics may not be used to seeing a veteran auto journalist outside of something that has two doors, is most at home on a race track, but the Mercedes G500 4×4 Squared was too tempting for him to to pass up. And we are glad he didn’t.
On initial impression, the Mercedes G500 4×4 Squared seems like it would be the brute. Portal axles, beefy off-road suspension, and the brash paint job are its main characteristics, and which gives off two signals.
First is that its owner likes, nay, loves attention. And second is that this tall thing should be able to eat up any sort of terrain that is thrown at it.
But Chris Harris uncovers one of the most striking characteristics about the Mercedes G500 4×4 Squared that none of us onlookers would have suspected: the fact it is the most comfortable G-Wagon for the road.
Shocker, right? Of course it is the ladder frame dinosaur that is built to crawl over rocks first and get give its owners a comfort Mercedes is known for second, and even though a hardcore off-road hardware makes the Mercedes G500 4×4 Squared seem better suited for the apocalypse than the comfortable cruise through Beverly Hills, well, it ends up pulling off both tasks effortlessly.
Perhaps that is because it hasn’t been impractically tuned for speed by AMG division? Whatever the case, comfort probably doesn’t makes the shred of difference to those who have plunked down the quarter million dollars for one.
To them, it is nothing more than the status symbol, but at least the Range Rover ride makes for the nice added bonus.
