A Porsche GT3 Cup race descended into the mass carnage at the Watkins Glen last weekend when the spectacular pileup took out nine vehicles, causing this race to be stopped and rescheduled and leaving four drivers requiring the hospital treatment.

During the second lap, the drivers Remo Ruscitti and Trenton Estep were jostling for position and came into the contact, causing the Porsche race cars to spin out of control and slam into a guardrail.

This led to the scary chain reaction pileup as the stopped vehicles blocked the track. With no time to react, the further seven Porsches piled into each other, scattering debris across a track.

You can skip to 4:44 in the video below to watch the carnage unfold. The wreckage was so widespread that this race had to be cancelled and rescheduled for the later date. Looking at the overhead shot, the track looks like the graveyard of wrecked Porsches.

The commentator noted that this accident happened on the particularly dangerous section of the track as the vehicles were hurtling up the crest of the hill where it is difficult to see up ahead.

Had the two racers spun off anywhere else, and they likely wouldn’t have triggered a chain reaction crash. Of the drivers involved in this pileup, Remo Ruscitti, Orey Fidani, Mark Kvamme, Alejando Chahwan, and Tim Sanderson were treated at the scene and released from the infield care center.
