We totally understand that not everyone has a mechanical and technical skills to build the car from little more than the body shell. It is the huge challenge, no doubt, but at least you will get what you want in the end.
That is, of course, if you prepare the proper game plan before the build starts. Well, in this latest episode of The House of Muscle host Mike Musto travels to California and to drive this 1970 Chevrolet Camaro, called by its owner and builder the ZL-70.
Nick Relampagos previously built what he thought was his dream machine, the restomod Chevelle. Only once it was finished did he realize it wasn’t what he wanted.
There is a major difference between the restomod and the corner carving pro tourer. So he started over again, and bought the shell of the 1970 Camaro and went from there.
He dropped the supercharged V8 under a hood, producing 682 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, so it is roughly similar in output to today’s Camaro ZL1.
This is where one must ask whether it is better to build or buy? Say the final price tag would be about a same, and you had access to the top shop who could handle the build, would you still do it? Well, sure it takes more time and energy, and the end result will more than likely be worth it.
