If you’ve ever been on the motorcycle and had something go wrong, you know how quickly a small mistake can turn into the big problem.
When your bike starts to slide unexpectedly, it can be almost impossible to recover. Heck, even missing a little bit of dirt or gravel in the corner can send you to the hospital.
Knowing how bad a motorcycle wreck can be makes this video even harder to watch. At the Misano World Circuit during the 1985 San Marino Grand Prix, Honda rider and noted madman Randy Mamola begins to the high side, and yet, somehow, he doesn’t.
And how he managed to not only stay out of the hospital but also on his motorcycle, I have no idea. And that’s the kind of situation where almost any other rider would go headfirst into a pavement. And yet somehow he was completely fine.
And was it instinct? Skill? Luck? Divine intervention? The combination of all four? Whatever it was, Randy Mamola’s save here is incredible.
One second it looks like all hope is lost, the next, he’s coasting through a grass like nothing happened. No wonder the man’s a legend.
