The CC, as you might have guessed by now, is Volkswagen’s idea of the four-door sedan with a coupe-like sweeping roofline. Essentially the Passat with a prettier body shell, the Comfort Coupe lost its edge due to its humble origin and the unexciting powertrains.
In this respect, the CC will be reinventing itself. Well, when? In March 2017. Where? In Geneva, at the most important auto show of them all.
The featured sketch is the teaser as to what the CC’s replacement will look like. Also, observe what’s written at the bottom right of the image. Arteon is the mashup of Art and Eon. According to VW, Art describes the fastback’s harmonious lines and emotionality.
Eon, however, is the nod to the China-only Phideon. Positioned in the upper mid-class according to Europe’s car classification scheme by segments, a fastback-bodied Volkswagen Arteon will roll into dealer lots in summer 2017.
Expected to be based on a MQB platform of the Passat B8, the Arteon will have its engine at the front, with the drive sent to either the front or all wheels. So to speak, that’s a yes: a sexier sibling of the Passat will be made available with 2.0 TDI and 2.0 BiTDI power.
