A 1,850-ton ship-to-shore crane in Dubai’s Jebel Ali port, one of the world’s busiest, collapsed after it was hit by an out of control British container ship. The crane fell just inches short from the port’s office building, with people and vehicles scattering in every direction away from the falling 450ft tall giant.
Incredibly, there were no fatalities in the incident. Actually, very few people reported only minor injuries mostly sustained while tripping while running, and some pulled hamstrings stemming from the lack of exercise, namely evacuation exercise. It turned out no one had much experience in fleeing panickedly from a falling crane. I trust they’ll do much better next time.
