The Mazda CX-5 rides the wave of the compact crossover boom and has emerged as one of the company’s most popular models. Last year, the automaker sold 100,000 CX-5s, accounting for one in four Mazdas sold.
For the second generation of the CX-5, the 2017 version takes design cues from the new Mazda 3 and CX-9. Mazda calls its design language the ‘horse and rider as one’ which aims to make the CX-5 look more upscale. Actually, the company is trying to fill the void between an every-car manufacturer like Toyota or Honda and a premium car manufacturer like Lexus.
Mazda’s most prized crossover gets a new large grille, stylish headlights, thinner taillights, and a freshened cabin. Beyond the new design, there are considerably reduced NVH, G-Vectoring Control technology and a choice of three 4-cylinder engines.
There are the updated Skyactiv-G 2.0- and 2.5-liter gas burners and Mazda said a revised Skyactiv-D sequentially turbocharged 2.2-liter diesel is coming later this year.
