Much has been said of the Tesla’s autopilot technology, primarily about its purpose NOT being to allow drivers to delegate their responsibility to the company’s groundbreaking self-driving software in order to text or nod off.
When it comes to the latter, Tesla has found a way to put a stop to such ambitions by programming the software to detect if a driver has let go of the wheel when the autopilot is engaged. If a person doesn’t comply with an audio/visual warning, the car will start the braking process, then slowly pull over to the side of the road and wait for the driver to regain consciousness.
This way, Tesla is able to avert potential catastrophes, while not rewarding irresponsible drivers in the process. Check out how this works in action.
