When it comes to something as fairly simple as door design, you would think that most manufacturers already had all options considered by now. Well, you’d be surprised to find out just how innovative the automotive world can sometimes be.
Chances are most of you have heard about the famous Mercedes-Benz Gullwing doors. Spotted for the first time on the legendary 1952 300SL race car, these brilliant contraptions has hinges mounted on the roof for easier access. Also known as butterfly doors, they opened upwards, thus looking fairly similar to the seagull’s wings. Some argued the practicality, but the fact it that these model doors remained in use even in today’s units.
Companies such as Tesla, an aspiring electric car manufacturer, gave their own twist on this fantastic idea, and we must notice that they did a phenomenal job.
