9. 2017 Ford GT
Just how awesome is the 2017 Ford GT mid-engine two-seater sports car? Well, the crazy car guys and gals over at Car And Driver believe that Ford’s most expensive car of all time is probably the American automaker’s greatest car of all time! And saying that about THE most iconic American carmaker ever is really saying something, don’t you think?
The 2017 Ford GT is coming to us with a storied pedigree. After all, it was the very first Ford GT40 that won the 24 hours of Le Mans race three years in a row back in the 1960s. The 2017 Ford GT is a celebration of these victories; it was designed to honor the golden anniversary of these three consecutive wins in France.
The designers of the yet to be released American sports car say they were given all of the leeway they could ever need when making the GT from the 2017 model year. Its shape is the most ergonomic production Ford of all time, while, at the same time, its body was put on a strict diet that saw it reach a dry weight of a mere 2800 pounds.
But what will shock the world from its car-loving axis is the engine Ford has decided to put inside its Ferrari killer. Yep, Ford has fitted it with a V-6 engine. Nope, not a V-12, a V-10, or even a V-8, but a V-6. However, this ain’t your grandma’s V-6. No sir, this is a 3.5-liter twin turbo six-valve engine.
