We came across pics and saw the lot of talk about Rob Dahm’s insane project that he unveiled at the SEMA 2016 not too long ago – the world’s first all-wheel drive FD RX-7.

Well, while that in itself is the huge talking point, there’s the heck of a lot more to the car than the drivetrain.

The vehicle is also wider with seriously blown out arches and smoothed over and molded-in bumpers, there is no bolt-on stuff here. Under the hood things are also pretty serious with the highly modified 4-rotor powering the one-off car. And of course, you would like to know a bit more about the vehicle, anyone with gasoline in their veins would.

Fortunately Rob explains a bit more for us. We have seen motors and bodywork like this before, and the all-wheel drive system is something unique. It’s custom and rather uncommon, but we have seen it before in Ken Block’s Hoonicorn.

Rob’s FD uses a same setup, and tweaked for his application of course. So now that’s two classic, iconic vehicles that feature an all-wheel drive setup, this could well be the start of the new fleet of awesome cars using the similar setup.

What’s next then? We wouldd love to see some more unique builds, like the all-wheel drive hemi ‘Cuda or maybe something like the Nissan 370Z.
