Driving the McLaren P1 LM last year, Indy 500 winner Kenny Bräck set the record for road-legal cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. He ran up Goodwood’s famous hill in 47.07 seconds, and if you haven’t seen the footage, please take a moment and watch.
Now, Goodwood brings us the on-board video of Bräck’s record run. What can we learn from this? For starters, Kenny Bräck is one seriously talented and brave dude.
The Goowdood hillclimb is notoriously bumpy and narrow, so you can see that he’s got to work hard to keep this car gripping the road.
Judging by the sound and shift lights on the gauge cluster, Kenny Bräck is shortshifting for most of this run.
This is probably done so the P1 LM’s 986 hp doesn’t overwhelm the rear wheels. Also, you can get away with short shifting in this vehicle, thanks to huge torque that its twin-turbo V8 and electric motors produce.
Kenny Bräck was recently spotted testing the P1 LM at the Nurburgring, possibly making the record attempt.
Given the way Kenny Bräck mastered the Goodwood hillclimb, we would say he has a pretty good shot of driving the P1 LM to Nurburgring glory.
