On the race track, the Tesla Model S is the fish out of water. The brakes aren’t up to the task, it’s difficult to keep the battery pack cool. To protect itself, the vehicle enters an energy-saving mode that cuts power. If you are trying to lay down the respectable lap time, that’s no good.
Where the Model S is really at home is on the drag strip. Especially if you spring for a latest version, the P100D. Its all-wheel-drive system and mountain of instantaneous torque make the P100D hilariously quick in the straight line.
But how does the Model S—and even the larger Model X—measure up against other vehicle in the real world? The video below shows the Model S P100D and a Model X P90D racing everything from the Cadillac CTS-V to the Ferrari 488 and even the modified BMW M5.
And, well, as the driver of the CTS-V put it, these vehicles absolutely haul ass. Can’t wait for 9 second Tesla’s. It will happen sooner or later. When it happens, rip most cars on the drag strip.
