The S60 Polestar sold at your local Volvo dealer isn’t quite as the high-performance as the BMW M3 or Mercedes-AMG C63, but it will hold its own against less extreme sports sedans like the C450 and 340i.
The version you see in the video below, though, is a 400-hp S60 Polestar TC1 race car built for the World Touring Car Championship. It’s just the bit more hardcore.
Presumably, this high-performance track vehicle should be quicker than a big rig. But the Volvo truck you see in this video isn’t your typical semi.
It’s Volvo’s new, 2400-hp Iron Knight, a truck so badass, it’s already set two land speed records. Suddenly, this race is the lot more interesting.
Even on the wet track, the Iron Knight’s humongous hp advantage is too much for the S60 racer. It’s actually a little unsettling watching the big rig jump off the line so quickly. And around the track, they are a lot more closely matched than you would expect.
Of course, this wasn’t ever the serious competition. It’s about showing off two impressive performance vehicles built for the very different tasks.
This is 100 percent a Volvo commercial, the results aren’t rigorous. But who doesn’t want to watch the semi-truck challenge a race car?
